Baku/27.12.21/Turan: The statements of the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan in an online interview on December 24 about the further fate of Karabakh caused a sharp aggravation of relations between Yerevan and the Karabakh separatists. The separatists called Pashinyan's statements "a betrayal of national interests" and openly expressed their disagreement with the position of the prime minister. The main reason for dissatisfaction was Pashkina's statements that “the territory of the former Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region was not considered as an exclusively Armenian territorial union at any stage of the negotiations. According to the prime minister, in the negotiations it was recorded that the Azerbaijani population also lived in Nagorno-Karabakh, and the protection of their interests was on the agenda of the negotiations."
Speaking about whether the decision of the UN Security Council on this issue is predictable, Pashinyan said: “The question will be resolved here: which country is Karabakh a part of, even with an intermediate status, before it becomes final? When this issue is resolved in the UN Security Council, its decision becomes very predictable, because in 1993 the UN Security Council adopted a resolution, which says the Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan, it says that the territorial integrity and inviolability of the borders of Azerbaijan are recognized.
This disaster in the negotiation process happened in 2016. This is important because if the status of Nagorno-Karabakh is registered, then its final status must be clarified in accordance with the constitution of Azerbaijan,” Pashinyan said.
Commenting on Pashinyan’s statements, the separatist “president” Arayik Harutyunyan wrote on his Facebook page:
“The international recognition of the independence of the Republic of “Artsakh” (our quotation marks, Ed.) is our main reference point, and no government can afford to deviate from this line. Therefore, the people and authorities of Artsakh will never and in no way accept any status within Azerbaijan."
He rejected the possibility of joint residence of Armenians and Azerbaijanis and stated that he was ready to fight for the "liberation of the occupied territories" of Karabakh.
In a word, the Karabakh Armenians, in fact, refused to fulfill the agreements reached by Pashinyan in negotiations with President Ilham Aliyev. On December 28, Aliyev and Pashinyan are expected to meet in St. Petersburg. At this meeting, agreements between Baku and Yerevan should be approved. Will Pashinyan take the risk against the background of unrelenting pressure from the revanchist forces to continue the process of normalizing relations between Baku and Yerevan?
Political observer Zardusht Alizade answered these and other questions in the "Difficult Question" program.
According to him, a painful process is going on in the Armenian society, which can be called “awareness of reality”. The Armenian people lived in the captivity of myths for a long time, but the 44-day war put an end to the illusions of the Armenians, returning them to the harsh reality. Naturally, awakening from dreams, illusions, is difficult, and then more conscious, more reasonable individuals urge people to accept reality as it is. But there are people who do not want to part with their dreams and they begin to rebel. But the reality is that this will not change anything, you have to come to terms with it. The opposite is fraught with even greater disaster.
As a result of the 44-day war, Armenia and the Armenian army were defeated and now Russian peacekeepers are deployed in Karabakh. The Karabakh Armenians themselves already understand that their security no longer depends on Armenia and its army. It depends only on Russian peacekeepers, Russia, and its president. At the same time, the Armenian intelligentsia, Armenian politicians, journalists are beginning to realize this and talk about it. And this causes pain for the Karabakh Armenians and those Armenians who call Karabakh a state. Therefore, they object to this.
Pashinyan, having won the parliamentary elections, having strengthened his position, began to open the eyes of the Armenian people to reality. –0--
