Rapists go unpunished because of the silence of society - Vafa Nagi
Baku/08.04.21/Turan: It is unlikely that such shameful phenomena as the rape of minors will be eradicated until the indifference and silence of society is eliminated, the public activist Vafa Nagi living in the Neftchala region told in the "Difficult Question" program of the Turan agency in the April 7 issue.
According to her, on April 3, 2021, a minor was raped in the village of Mirgurbanli and left on the sidelines. The girl was found and taken to her home by one family, Nagi, along with another activist, visited this family. However, the head of the family asked not to disclose his name.
The girl said that her father was mentally ill, and her mother was raped and left the village. The girl's aunt looked after the children. The teenager was raped by his aunt's husband and another relative from his mother's side.
“A 16-year-old victim of rape, she suffered several times over the past three years. Everyone in the village knows, but they prefer to talk about it secretly, without publicizing it. Even the girl's aunt conceal these crimes.
It is unlikely that the head of the village administration, the chair of the municipality and the district police inspector did not know this. According to Nagi, the girl was raped in the abandoned houses of the village. Now the family that picked up the girl is being threatened.
In the same village, there was another fact of a sexual crime against a minor. Then the 32-year-old rapist was detained, but later released. “The reluctance of people to make such facts public is due to indifference and fear,” the activist said.
According to Nagi, in the village of Kholgaragashly, a sexual crime was committed against a seventh-grader, but the case was also hushed up, forcing the parents not to complain.
As noted by Nagi, despite a number of facts, only one person was brought to justice - a 59-year-old man. He was charged under the Article 159 (having sexual intercourse with a minor or other acts of a sexual nature) of the Criminal Code. In her opinion, irresponsibility for such actions can encourage new crimes. –05D06-
