The Russian-Ukrainian war. Day 5. Will the negotiations have results?

Baku/28.02.22/Turan: Russia's aggression against Ukraine continues. The whole country is waiting for the results of the talks in Gomel (Belarus) between the delegations of the two countries.

The Ukrainian delegation included Head of the Servant of the People faction David Arakhamia, Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov, Advisor to the Head of the Office of the President Mykhailo Podolyak, First Deputy Head of the Ukrainian delegation to the Trilateral Contact Group Andriy Kostin, MP Rustem Umerov and Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Mykola Tochitsky .

The Russian delegation, headed by President Vladimir Putin's aide Vladimir Medinsky, included Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko, State Duma Deputy Leonid Slutsky and Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin.

Earlier, the office of the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky said that "the key issue of the negotiations is an immediate ceasefire and the withdrawal of troops from the territory of Ukraine." In turn, the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov did not disclose the goals of the negotiations.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin began to threaten the world with nuclear weapons. The day before, at a meeting with the military leadership, he ordered the strategic deterrence forces to be put on special duty.

He motivated his order with the "unfriendly actions" of the West, referring to the sanctions of the West for a new Russian attack on Ukraine, and stated that "top officials of the leading NATO countries make aggressive statements" against his country.

According to the Ukrainian media, there are Kremlin SRGs (sabotage and reconnaissance groups) in Kiev, which are tasked with eliminating Zelensky.

Meanwhile, the Russian ruble continues to depreciate.

Political commentator Shahin Jafarli commented on these events in the "Difficult Question" program. A At the same time, Azerbaijanis Yalchin Gahramanoglu, Ilgar Hussein and journalist Idrak Jamalbeyli, who live in Ukraine, talk about the situation there.

The observer Shahin Jafarli believes, that one should not expect any results from these negotiations.

“It is curious, however, that the initiator of the negotiations in Gomel was not Ukraine, which was subjected to aggression, but the aggressor, Russia,” he noted, adding that “the final agreement on the meeting has not yet been reached, and the Russian delegation has already arrived in Belarus.”

“Essentially, the Russians confronted the Ukrainian side with the fact that they are already at the meeting place. After that, Alexander Lukashenko called President Zelensky to agree on negotiations,” the expert said.

According to Jafarli, the situation at the front has a decisive influence on the course of negotiations. And if Russia would have a clear advantage, then it could dictate its conditions to Ukraine.

“But, Russia's 'blitzkrieg' failed and it suffered significant losses in manpower and equipment, so I do not expect serious concessions from the Ukrainian side of Russia. In my opinion, a surrender world is out of the question. There is only the expectation of reaching an agreement on a ceasefire. But even this is hard to believe, although I do not exclude such a possibility with a humanitarian purpose. But the likelihood of reaching a serious political agreement between the parties is extremely unlikely,” Jafarli said.

Referring to the nuclear blackmail of Vladimir Putin, who the day before, at a meeting with the military leadership ordered the strategic deterrence forces to be put on special duty, Jafarli said that "these threats did not impress anyone."

"More likely, this is a manifestation of his impotence - in fact, by doing so, he admitted that Russia is not in a position to wage conventional wars with a serious adversary," the expert believes.

Jafarli also noted that in addition to the withdrawal of some Russian banks from SWIFT, the West has imposed sanctions that paralyze the assets of the Central Bank of Russia.

“Thanks to this, about half of the financial reserves of the Central Bank of Russia, stored in the banks of the G7 countries, will be frozen. This will greatly affect the financial system of Russia,” the expert is convinced.—0---
