What happened between Azerbaijani and Armenian soldiers? And why now?
Baku/12.12.23/Turan: According to information provided by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence, on April 11, Armenian armed forces fired at Azerbaijani army positions in the direction of the Lachin region from positions situated in the Dyg village of the Goris region. As a result of this provocation, several Azerbaijani army servicemen were martyred and wounded. This is said in a statement by the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
Three Azerbaijani soldiers were killed as a result. The incident occurred at 16:20 on the border between the Lachin region of Azerbaijan and the Syunik region of Armenia. According to the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence, the Armenian side suffered heavy losses.
In turn, the Armenian Defense Ministry confirmed the death of 4 servicemen and the wounding of 6. Military expert Shair Ramaldanov commented on the developments in the "Hard Issue" program. He did not confirm, but did not exclude the possibility of the Armenian armed forces using Shahed-136 ammunition during the clash with the Azerbaijani army on April 11.
He has also confirmed the use of Indian-made howitzers by Armenians (apparently, the matter concerns self-propelled howitzers "MArG" (multi-terrain artillery gun) 155 - BR on wheeled chassis 4x4, developed by "Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited" (KSSL) as a part of "Bharat Forge Limited" (c) Kalyani strategic systems Ltd.
According to Ramaldanov, the Indian howitzers were used to bring tensionы in Azerbaijan-India relations. "Didn't Armenians have other howitzers? Why did they use guns purchased from India? It was done with an aim to harm Azerbaijan at least in some way," the military expert said.
Touching upon the reasons of the incident, the expert said that the video footage disseminated by Armenians themselves show Armenian military digging the ground with an excavator, carrying out engineering and fortification works. "At the same time, Azerbaijani servicemen were at the post and were not engaged in the construction of any engineering structures.
Since there was no delimitation and who owns this territory is unknown, the construction by Armenians on this territory was illegal," the expert explained, adding, "On the other hand, we are well aware that such activity of Armenians is a sure precursor of future provocations. That is why the Azerbaijani military drove up to the Armenian soldiers and politely demanded that the construction stop," Ramaldanov said.
