Agricultural Production Decreased by 2.6%

In 2014, the volume of the agricultural product in Azerbaijan amounted to 5 billion 225,800,000 manat. In comparable prices agricultural goods fell by 2.6%, which is a consequence of the deterioration in performance crop, the State Statistics Committee told Turan.

Last year, despite the state support of agriculture products fell by 8.3%. Experts attribute this trend not only to adverse weather conditions, but also the low profitability of farms due to the fall in yields. As a result of last year, gross domestic product in crops has given way to livestock. For the first time in many years, the share of livestock in agricultural production amounted to 53.1%, and the share of crop remained at 46.9%.

During the year it was produced 2 million 383.3 thousand tons of grain and leguminous crops, which is 12.7% less than in 2013. It was collected 1 million 449.1 thousand tons of wheat. Due to lower acreage and yield in Azerbaijan last year collection of wheat was reduced to 444 thousand tons.

Last year, growth was recorded only for the production of melons and watermelons (441 thousand tons, +2.6%). For the rest of crops the year failed.

From vegetable gardens there were collected 1 million 187.7 thousand tons of vegetables (-3.9%), while orchards gave 850 thousand tons of crops, which is 0.5% less than in 2013. Production of potatoes sharply reduced. If in 2013 there were collected 992.8 thousand tons of potatoes, last year this figure fell by 173.5 thousand tons. Low yields (82.8 quintals / ha) were the cause of the reduction in the production of grapes (147.7 thousand tons - 0.6%).

Stock breeders ended the year with a positive result. The production of meat in live weight (505.5 thousand tons) increased by 1.7%, milk (1 million 855.6 thousand tons) - 3.3%, eggs (1 billion 562,700,000) - 11.5%.

Last year, the amount of subsidies to producers of crops amounted to no less than 125 million manat. In addition, the state-run Agroleasing JSC declares that it provides agronomic services to farmers at low prices. Breeding animals and fertilizers purchased abroad are sold to farmers and agribusinesses at 50% of the cost. ---08B
