Azerbaijan Does Not Meet Its Own Needs for Meat and Dairy Products - Expert
Baku / 04.09.17 / Turan: Statements on Azerbaijan meeting its own population's needs for meat, dairy products and chicken at the expense of domestic production do not reflect the reality.
This opinion was voiced by the expert on agrarian issues Vahid Maharramli, commenting on the statements of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on the full meeting of the country's needs for these types of food products at the expense of domestic production made at a meeting in Lankaran dedicated to the development of tea, rice and citrus growing on September 3.
The head of state noted that Azerbaijan's needs for meat and chicken are met at the expense of domestic production by 100 percent, and the needs for milk are met by 80 percent.
Maharramli drew attention to the fact that, according to the standards of the World Health Organization (WHO), every person should consume 84 kg of meat per year. Azerbaijan annually produces 300 thousand tons of meat and thus each citizen of the country accounts for only 30 kg.
With regard to milk production, 360 kg is required to meet the need for this food product per capita. On a national scale, this amounts to 3 million 600 thousand tons of milk. However, in reality, 2 million 55 thousand tons of milk is produced in the country and this is enough to meet the needs of the population by 55%.
According to the expert, the same concerns chicken meat and eggs.
"As for wheat, the bakery industry depends on imported grain 100 percent," Maharramli said.-05B06-
