AZERBAIJAN-IRANIAN GAS TALKS POSTPONED
BAKU/16.09.10/TURAN: SOCAR has postponed its talks with NIGEC, Iran on the long-term contract over gas supplies to Iran due to technical problems. The SOCAR Gas Export Department"s Chief, Kamal Abbasov, said the Astara gas compressor station is being upgraded. Only after the work is completed and the Hajigabul-Astara gas main is partly modernized, the bilateral talks will start.
Iran expected the talks to finish in the summer of 2010. The gas would be supplied to the northern regions of Iran. The contract would be a 20-year one. The annual supply would total 5 billion m3. But the talks did not even start.
Azerbaijan has been supplying its gas (250-300 million m3 per annum) to the exclave Nakhchivan Autonomy via Iran since November 2006. Iran"s fee is 15% of the volume.--12С--
