"The new unit will provide automatic feeding of ferroalloy products and direct reduction of iron from ore (DRI / HBI) directly into the melting furnace. This equipment can use up to 80% DRI and HBI during melting. And this, in turn, will lead to a reduction in the use of scrap as the main raw material, given that its presence in the country is rather limited, according to the press service of the company.
BSC purchases DRI and HBI in Russia and Iran.
BSC is also going to buy the Italian company's modern type continuous casting machine (Fastcastcupe), which will make it possible to produce round billets for pipes, currently imported from Russia. This machine pours metal into three streams at a speed of 5 meters per minute at a radius of 9 meters, and it will be possible to pour both round and square billets on it.
BSC owns 97% of the shares of Sumgayit Azerboru, which produces pipes of oil assortment. Acquisition of special robots is planned to take samples from the electric arc furnace and ladle furnace for the analysis of liquid metal, as well as for automatic measurement of temperature.
BSC will set the fourth rolling line. It will be equipped with modern technology and achieve a productive speed of 36 meters of steel framework per second that exceeds the speed of conventional lines 6-7 times. Each meter of steel framework produced in the new rolling line will come with a label name and logo Baku Steel Company.
