Gasprom conducts consultations with European commission to lift EU anti-monopoly claims

Gasprom has been conducting consultations with the European Commission to lift anti-monopoly claims  of the highest executive branch of European Union, said Vladimir Chizhov, Russia’s permanent representative in EU.

“I could confirm that the sides have been conducting consultations,” he said at the briefing in the Expert Institute “Centre of European Policy.”

EU has started the anti-monopoly investigation of the Russian company on the basis of complaint of Lithuanian authorities on September 4, 2012. Then the European regulator announced that it will study Gasprom’s business practice, which is suspected “of abuse of his dominating position in the gas deliveries to the Central and Eastern Europe, preventing a free gas flow through the EU member-states, diversification of the sources of gas deliveries  and imposing unfair gas prices on the buyers.”

Investigation is conducted in the Baltic countries, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Bulgaria.

According to the European legislation, five for violation of the competition norms could reach 10% of the company’s annual turnover.—0—
