NCDF : Yadigar Sadigov sentence of a political nature
The National Council of Democratic Forces ( NCDF ) strongly condemned the sentence of 6 years in prison imposed by the court in Lankaran on Yadigar Sadigov, the adviser to the head of the Musavat party.
NCDF requires authorities to immediately release all political prisoners , including Sadigov.
NCDF states that after the rigged presidential elections on October 9, 2013 and the usurpation of power by the Azerbaijani government, there continues to be a policy of repression against their opponents .
The purpose of this policy is to intimidate the population and deter citizens from political activity, it said in the statement. Sadigov was arrested for political dissent and the verdict is absurd .
"This decision is another testimony of the legal nihilism in the Azeri courts," the statement said.
Sadigov was arrested on June 27, 2013, and on January 13 he was sentenced to 6 years imprisonment on charges of hooliganism .
Sadigov is one of the most active opposition politicians in the southern region and is popular among the population. He was also active on Facebook.
Sadigov organized the trip of the leader of Musavat, Isa Gambar, to Lankaran in January 2013 , which was thwarted by police and local activists of the ruling party. -03D06-
