MP: Retirement Age Should Be Reviewed
Baku / 14.11.18 / Turan: There is a great need to revise the law "On the pension system." This was announced by MP Vahid Ahmedov during the discussion of the draft law "On the budget for 2019 of the relevant executive authority implementing social security and protection".
In his speech, he addressed the Minister of Labor and Social Security.
"I propose the new minister, Sahil Babayev, to seriously consider the issue of retirement age. We have seriously raised the retirement age. I don"t understand why we send women to retire at 65?" the MP asked.
Vahid Ahmedov reminded that the Milli Majlis adopted very serious bills in connection with pension reforms.
"We have changed the retirement age of men and women, bringing it to 65 years. That is, we raised it. What did it give to the state budget? Did it give additional funds? In general, was it calculated? "said the MP, noting that pension reforms have no positive results yet.
V. Ahmedov also previously expressed concern about the retirement age. He told Radio Azadlig the retirement age in Azerbaijan is very high and should be lowered.
A change in legislation due to the retirement age was made in 2017. The retirement age for men and women was brought up to 65 years.
Prior to this change, the retirement age for women was 60 years and for men 63 years. In the Soviet and first post-Soviet 15 years, women retired at 57, and men at 60. According to the WHO, life expectancy in Azerbaijan is within 72.5 years. Life expectancy for men reaches an average of 69.6 years, and for women - 75.8 years. The average life expectancy after retirement in Japan is 27 years, in Israel - 22 years, in Spain and France - 20 years, in Estonia, Germany and Georgia - 19 years. -0-
