Rail, Sea and Air Freight Transportation Reduced
During the first 11 months of this year, freight transportation by rail, water and air modes of transport in Azerbaijan reduced by 10%.
According to the State Statistics Committee, the trains of the state-run CJSC Azerbaijani Railways transported 19.8 thousand tons of cargo, which is 6.9% less than in the first 11 months of 2013. Merchant ships of CJSC Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company carried cargo between ports on the Caspian Sea, totaling 9,045,800 tons. Mariners dropped the cargo flow by 15.3%.
Performance of private carriers and air transport also deteriorated. While in January-November the airlines LLC SW Holding transported 111,600 tons of cargo, this year the indicator dropped to 103 000 tons (-7.7%).
Since the beginning of this year the volume of freight traffic in Azerbaijan has amounted to 202.5 million tons (+ 1.6%). Road transport (117.6 million tons) accounted for 58% of the freight traffic. It should be noted that in contrast to rail, water and air modes of transport, where there is a more accurate accounting, transportation by car is determined by statistical surveys.
According to official statistics, compared with 2008, in 2013 (217.9 million tons) freight transportation increased 34.9 million tons due to road transport. For the specified period, transport by rail fell by 4.3 million tons, by water transport – by 388 000 tons, and by road transport, on the contrary, increased 37.2 million tons. -08B-
