Satellite Azerispace-2 to Be Made by Canadians
The second account of the national telecommunications satellite Azerispace-2, according to the contract, will be made by the company Space Systems / Loral (Canada).
According to the information of Azerkosmos, the contractor of the Corporation MDA is the leading manufacturer of commercial satellites, and it won the tender, which was attended by five companies. The new aircraft is designed to meet the growing needs of the region in satellite capacity, as well as provide regular communications services, including in the field of electronic media.
The design of the satellite will be created on the basis of highly reliable satellite platform SSL 1300, which in turn creates opportunities for multiple deployments and high technology. The agreement provides for the exchange of information between Canadian and Azerbaijani specialists in the field of radar observation of the Earth's surface.
The project is also funded by the Canadian side (Export Development Canada), which granted a long-term soft loan, and the launch of a satellite into orbit is planned for 2017.
Azerkosmos and Intersat agreed that Azerispace-2 takes orbital position at 45 degrees East, covering Africa, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
Recall, the first telecommunications satellite Azerspace-1 was launched on 9 February 2013 from Kourou (French Guiana in South America). --17D-
