SOCAR invited us company to close well n0 90
State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) has completed cleaning of equipment on the drilling platform on the Bulla-Deniz field, where the accident occurred on August 17, 2013.
SOCAR press office reported that the crane vessels Shirvan and Tagiyev have been used for the works.
The representatives of the US Boots & Coots International Well Control company have been invited to help to SOCAR and the Azerbaijan Ministry of Emergency Situations.
It was decided that the Gurban Abbasov crane vessel will be used to close the well. The works on the preparation of the vessel are currently in progress.
On August 17, 2013 at 11.30 p.m. local time the gas flowed on the exploration well No 90, which was drilled on the Bulla Deniz field, 80 km south of Baku. The gas flow has caused fire on the well. 62 oilmen have been evacuated from the offshore platform. The fire was 50-60 meters high and it created the "fire zone" within the radius of 350 meters.
On August 26, 2013 SOCAR managed to localize the fire on the exploration well and it has also stopped the horizontal spread of the fire and directed it vertically. The company has used the vessel of the Azerbaijani frontier troops to clean the mouth of the well from the equipment, which prevented the works. Afterwards 11 fire boats created a water curtain around the burning well. This allowed the specialists dismantling equipment from the platform. Within a week the equipment has been fully dismantled, except for the part above the well.-0-

The outcome of the 44-day Second Karabakh War in 2020 has significantly reshaped the ranking of foreign direct investment (FDI) into Azerbaijan's economy, economist Gubad Ibadoglu said in an article. Recent data show a notable rise in investments from Russia, Turkey, and China, particularly targeting the liberated territories. However, Western investments have remained limited, as barriers such as monopolies, a lack of judicial independence, and the government's classification of states as "friendly" or "unfriendly" have dampened interest.
