SOCAR specifies how well on Bulla Deniz could be saved?
The situation on the Bulla Deniz field, where fire has been continuing since August 17, is normal, said Rovnag Abdullayev, SOCAR President.
“The cleaning works were completed on the well and the situation is normal now,” he told journalists.
The representatives of the US Hellenic Petroleum company are involved in the fire extinguishing jointly with the local specialists.
“We want to save the well. For this purpose a special equipment was delivered from the US. We are getting ready to block the well. We are going to specify how to do that – with the burning well or after the fire extinguishing,” he explained.
Abdullayev said that the main goal of SOCAR is to save the well. There is a possibility to continue drilling on the exploration well after the fire extinguishing, because the fire has revealed new productive horizons of deep-lying gas in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea.
Bulla Deniz gas condensate field, which is located in the Caspian Sea, 80 km south of Baku, is being developed since 1975. The sea depth here is about 30 meters.
According to official information, the well caught fire during the exploration drilling on the depth of 5,868 meters. Gas, which erupted under high pressure, ignited.
SOCAR said that 2.5-3 million cub.m. of gas a day is burnt in the fire. According to the calculations of the Azerbaijan Centre of Oil Studies Caspian Barrel, about 150 million cub.m. of gas has burnt on the well during 45 days, because the first days the gas kick intensity was twice higher.—0--
