Azerbaijan became the chair of TransAsia-Europe (TAE) for the period 2013-15. The presidency passed to us from Ukraine. The interests of the state are represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) of Azerbaijan.
In view of globalization and the ever-increasing demand for the services of fiber-optic backbone it is neccessary to make a lot of organizational effort to further improve the effectiveness of TAE, they told Turan in the ministry.
The commission on project management met in Baku on November 7-8, 2012 in which the representatives of the national operator in Ukraine Ukrtelecom, the German company T-systems (a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom) and Georgian company FopNet took part.
Implementation of TAE is agreed by the tripartite protocol signed on October 21, 1999 between Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey. In December of the same year, construction began on the Azerbaijani segment of TAE. In 2001, the construction of the onshore section of the segment started and channels of communication between Baku and Tbilisi were translated into the fiber-optic backbone TransAsia-Europe.
