Ilham Aliyev took part in the opening of a hydroelectric power station in the Zangilan region
Baku/29.09.23//Turan: On September 28, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev took part in the opening of the “Jahangirbeyli” hydroelectric power station (HEP) of the “Azerenergy” Open Joint Stock Company.
The head of “Azerenergy,” Baba Rzayev, informed the head of state about the work done at the station. In accordance with the instruction of President Ilham Aliyev on the creation of a green energy potential in the territories liberated from occupation in the autumn of 2022, “Azerenergy” OJSC began construction in four places of a section of the Okhchuchai River passing through the territory of the Zangilan region, a cascade of hydroelectric power plants (HPPs) with a capacity of 10.5 MW each and a total capacity of 42 MW. The work is coming to an end at the Sarygyshlag, Shayifly and Zangilan hydroelectric power plants, and they have already been completed at the “Jahangirbeyli” HEP.
It was noted that in the engine room built for the “Jahangirbeyli” HPP, two Francis ecoturbines of European production with a capacity of 5.25 MW with a green certificate, generators, remotely controlled digital equipment were installed. The station will annually produce more than 30 million kW/hours of electricity.
The cascade of Zangilan HEP plants with a capacity of 42 MW, consisting of 4 stations, the construction of which was reviewed by President Ilham Aliyev in May this year, is the first completely new major energy production project in the territories liberated from occupation.
This project was implemented in record time – in just a year. Until now, neither in Azerbaijan nor in other places has there been the fact of the construction of so many hydroelectric power plants of such capacity and in such a period.
To provide these four stations with water, “Azerenergy” has built a main water intake plant at an altitude of 600 meters above sea level. The water capacity of this installation with a width of 450 and a length of 250 meters is 400-450 thousand cubic meters. The creation of this installation, along with the production of energy, is extremely important from the point of view of agriculture and ecology. The construction of the main water intake will also contribute to the cleaning of the riverbed, which has been polluted for 30 years, and the revival of flora and fauna.
A pair of derivation pipes has been laid from the main water intake at a distance of 23 kilometers with 35 percent of river water remaining in the riverbed. The water from the pipe falls back into the river. More than 8 thousand trees have been planted around the “Jahangirbeyli” HEP. –0
