Armenia turns away from a name "cognac"
Baku/17.06.21/Turan: Armenian producers will turn away from a name "cognac" from 2043. They are looking for a new name in an attempt to preserve the markets, acting Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia Mher Grigoryan told TASS.
The decision was made within the framework of the enhanced partnership agreement between Armenia and the European Union. The country will no longer use a word "cognac" when exporting products, since this term can only be used to title drinks produced in the French department of Charente (where the city of Cognac is located).
Also, since 2032, the use of a word "cognac" will be prohibited at the domestic market of Armenia. The EU will provide Yerevan with financial assistance in the amount of three million euros. Grigoryan fears that unscrupulous sellers will continue to use this brand.
The EU program provides for the development of a new name for Armenian brandy, its advertising and marketing. Note that the program is funded from the EU budget under the European Neighbourhood Instrument. Over the past three years, the volume of Armenian cognac exports amounted to about $ 0.5 billion of which about 79 percent fall on Russia. -02D-
