Loud explosions heard in Russia's Belgorod near Ukrainian border, reports of attack on airport
nv.ua: Videos published by local media showed columns of smoke rising over the airport, blasts from apparent incoming missiles strikes, and exhaust trails from anti-aircraft missile launches.
Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported there had been at least 16 explosions and that air defense systems had been activated.
Based on preliminary reports, two people were injured in the apparent missile attack, Belgorod Oblast Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov wrote on Telegram on Oct. 15.
The Ukrainian military has not commented on the attack on Belgorod airport.
Military experts, commenting on social media, said the attack might have been directed at Russian S-300 surface-to-air missile batteries that are thought to have shot down two Ukrainian warplanes recently.
This is the second reported attack on Belgorod in two days: an oil depot near the Russian city reportedly caught fire as a result of shelling on Oct. 15.
