Russia refused to extradite former defense minister to Armenia
Moscow / 31.08.18 / Turan: Moscow will not extradite to Yerevan former defense minister Mikael Harutyunyan, accused of using the army against the civilian population in March 2008, reported the agency "Interfax" referring to the source of law enforcement agencies of the Russian Federation.
The reason for the refusal is that Mikael Harutyunyan has Russian citizenship since 2002, and Russia does not extradite his citizens to foreign countries, the source said.
The former president Robert Kocharian is also being arrested under the same lawsuit on March events, but later the court of appeal released him from custody.
Mikael Harutyunyan, as well as Robert Kocharyan, is a native of Azerbaijan. He comes from the village of Sagiyan in the Shamakhi region, and is a graduate of the Baku Higher Combined-Arms School. -02D-
