Scores injured and 16 hospitalised after train derails in Russia
euronews: At least 16 people, including one child, were hospitalised, and another 140 suffered minor injuries in Russia after a train collided with a truck in the southwestern Volgograd region, domestic outlets reported.
Russian media earlier reported that at least two people had been killed in the accident, but this has not been confirmed by the authorities.
Eight carriages of the passenger train carrying some 800 people derailed in the collision, Russian Railways said in a message on its Telegram channel.
Relief teams and repair trains were immediately dispatched to the scene, while service on the part of the railway line impacted has been halted indefinitely.
Hundreds of emergency personnel are on site, according to Russian outlets.
The train was on its way from Kazan in southwest Russia to Adler on Russia’s Black Sea coast, derailing near Kotelnikovo, about 1200km south of Moscow.
Russia has been experiencing an increase in both cargo and passenger train accidents, with at least seven major incidents reported since June. So far, there has been no indication of sabotage in any of those incidents.
