Turkey announces decisions on the export of Ukrainian grain "in the coming days"

Kiev/06.06.22/UNIAN: Turkey said that "in the coming days" it expects a decision on the export of grain from Ukraine by sea, but even after the agreement it will take about 5 weeks to start the operation.

Turkish President's press secretary Ibrahim Kalin told Anadolu about this during a visit to Madrid.

He stressed that now it is economically and physically most expedient to transport Ukrainian grain to the international market through the ports of the Black and Azov Seas.

According to Erdogan's representative, consultations are continuing with Turkey on coordinating the departure and arrival of ships that will carry cargo, as well as coordinating the mechanism that will be created between Turkey, Ukraine, Russia and the UN.

"I can say that the atmosphere is generally positive so far," Kalin outlined the talks and added that "there are certain legitimate security expectations" regarding the fact that Russian ships will not enter unblocked ports.

The Ukrainian side believes that the creation of such a mechanism and the supply of its own grain products to the international market will be in the interests of the country. At the same time, the Russian side, says Kalin, "does not look at it negatively."

"The international community is already moving in this direction. We expect some concrete decisions on this issue in the coming days. Our efforts in this direction are continuing," he says.

He added that a meeting of the authorities and experts on logistics, transport and agriculture is expected to discuss this issue in the near future.

"Even if we agree on the main issues, it will probably take another 3-5 weeks to start the operation. Because time is working against us when we consider mine clearance, preparation of such a corridor, departure of ships. Therefore, we tell all our colleagues and interlocutors that the sooner we start, the better," he said.

As UNIAN reported, the Turkish authorities have prepared a "road map" to solve the global food crisis provoked by the Russian attack on Ukraine. In particular, following the negotiations of the Turkish side with representatives of Ukraine, the Russian Federation and the UN, a "road map" has been prepared that will ensure the operation of the "grain corridor" under the auspices of the UN. This plan will include the route, insurance, ship safety, port clearance, as well as the composition of the command center.

As part of this initiative, it is planned to export 20 million tons of grain to world markets.
