US Announces New $325M Security Package, Hits $40B In Weapons Pledged To Ukraine
Washington D.C./14.06.23/Turan: The Biden administration on Tuesday announced an additional $325 million in security assistance for Ukraine, which includes more rockets, armored vehicles, and brings total weapons pledged to Ukrainians amid Putin's brutal war to $40 billion, TURAN's Washington correspondent reports.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced the package, echoing the pledge of enduring support: "Russia started this unprovoked war against Ukraine. Russia could end it at any time by withdrawing its forces from Ukraine and stopping its brutal attacks against Ukraine’s cities and people. Until Russia does so, the United States and our allies and partners will stand united with Ukraine, for as long as it takes," Blinken said in a statement.
The new will include “critical air defense capabilities, additional munitions for HIMARS, artillery rounds, anti-tank weapons, armored vehicles, and other equipment essential to strengthening Ukraine’s forces on the battlefield,” Blinken said.
The Pentagon, in its turn, outlined the full list of the package, which will also consist of additional munitions for NASAM Systems, Stinger anti-aircraft systems, 155mm and 105mm artillery rounds, 15 Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles, 10 Stryker Armored Personnel Carriers, Javelin and AT-4 anti-armor systems, TOW missiles, more than 22 million rounds of small arms ammunition and grenades, communications support and other field equipment.
Tuesday’s package came just days after Ukraine began its long-expected counteroffensive against Putin's troops, with reports suggesting that Kyiv has made small gains and recaptured several villages in the eastern Donetsk region.
In the meantime, the latest U.S. security aid also came on the heels of Russian overnight strikes which killed more than a dozen on civilliance in President Zelensky's hometown.
When asked by TURAN for the U.S. reaction to the latest attacks, State Department's spokesperson Matthew Miller called it "just the latest example" of Russia's systematic, intentional campaign to target Ukrainian civilians and Ukrainian civilian infrastructure through repeated airstrikes, missile strikes,.
