Volodin suggested that deputies withdraw the draft on the conscription of 50-year-old migrants
РБК: State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin called the issue of increasing the conscription age to 50 years for those who have received Russian citizenship unexplored. He told RIA Novosti that the deputies who introduced the bill will be asked to withdraw it.
The explanatory note states that foreigners who have become Russian citizens often avoid registering for military service or “deliberately wait until they reach the maximum conscription age” (30 years), after which they receive a Russian passport. The deputies cited as an example a police raid in August 2023 in St. Petersburg, as a result of which about 100 natives of foreign countries who received Russian citizenship were taken to military registration and enlistment offices.
Parliamentarians, citing data from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, indicate that in January-October 2023, over 318 thousand people received Russian passports, mainly natives of Armenia, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. In Bashkiria in November-December last year, 111 migrants with Russian citizenship were registered with the military.
Current Russian legislation provides for the obligation of a foreigner who has received Russian citizenship to register with the military two weeks after registering at his place of residence. In the absence of a military ID, such citizens are deprived of the opportunity to legally work in Russia.
The upper limit of the conscription age in Russia increased from 27 to 30 years from January 1, while the lower limit remained the same - 18 years. The corresponding law was signed by the head of state Vladimir Putin in August 2023.
