The number of municipalities in Azerbaijan is decreasing. On April 5, after the amendments were made, the Milli Majlis adopted in the third reading the laws "On Joint activities, unification, separation and liquidation of municipalities" and "On the status of municipalities".

As voting concluded in the early presidential elections, the anticipation over President Ilham Aliyev's victory intensified. By 5 PM local time in Baku, over 70% of voters had cast their ballots, with an exit poll conducted by the Oracle Advisory Group revealing an overwhelming support of more than 93.9% for President Aliyev.

More than 25,000 observers have been registered in Azerbaijan to observe the upcoming early presidential elections on February 7.

The campaign for early presidential elections has been launched in Azerbaijan on January 15. According to the requirement of the Electoral Code, the campaign begins 23 days before the election and ends one day before the vote.
