19 Armenian military personnel arrested for spying on foreign country
Baku/10.02.22/Turan: The Military Counterintelligence Directorate of Armenia's National Security Service exposed an Armenian military network spying for a foreign country, the Armenian media reported on February 10. This was reported by Armenian media on February 10.
It is reported that the foreign intelligence service created fake pages of Armenian women in social networks and used them to get acquainted with military servicemen.
Fluent in Armenian, foreign intelligence officers established online acquaintances and trusting relationships. They were further offered cooperation by offering money to provide information on the deployment of military units, personnel, weapons, ammunition, quantity and type of military equipment, commanding officers, equipment, etc.
About two dozen Armenian citizens, occupying various positions in the army, were involved in the network. The preliminary investigation revealed that 19 people were detained on suspicion of treason, some of whom confessed. About 30 searches were conducted, documents and cheques were confiscated.
The Armenian side does not disclose which state the soldiers were spying for. Their names, positions and places of service are not disclosed either. At the same time it is known that some of them served in the system of the Defense Ministry.
To recall, during the Second Karabakh war (autumn 2020) and after its end about 10 military servicemen, including officers of the Ministry of Defense, were arrested in Armenia and Karabakh on charges of espionage in favor of Azerbaijan. -02D-
