42 thousand candidates registered in municipal elections
Baku / 30.11.19 / Turan: During the election campaign for municipal elections in Azerbaijan, the stage of registering candidates for local government councils was completed.
More than 42 thousand candidates have already been registered for 15156 seats in 1606 municipal councils. Among them, representatives of 13 parties: “New Azerbaijan”, “Democratic Reforms”, “Great Creation”, Civil Unity, Popular Front Party, “United Azerbaijan”, “National Revival Movement”, “Democratic Enlightenment”, Social Democratic Party, “ Umid ”, Fatherland, Civil Solidarity,“Vahdat ”and the Republican Party.
At the same time, the leading opposition parties - the Popular Front Party and Musavat - refused to participate in the elections, believing that there are no conditions for democratic elections in the country and the powers of local self-government are limited.
Municipal elections are scheduled for December 23. –05B06-
