Action Flash Mob on the Boulevard, on the Occasion of Europe Day
Azerbaijan European Movement (AEM) on the occasion of Europe Day held on the boulevard action in the form of "flash mob". The demonstration took place on the boulevard, opposite the square "Azerneft."
About 150 young people lined up in a row - back to the sea, facing the city. They held in their hands painted in blue balloons and banners with slogans that display European values - secularism, free elections, human rights, cultural diversity, freedom of assembly, freedom of expression, democracy, transparency and integrity of the property, etc.
As noted by the Secretary General of AEM Aygyul Jafarova, the demonstration is held to attract the attention of the residents of Baku to European values - freedom, democracy, civil society, the rule of law, the advancement in technology.
The rally lasted about 10 minutes. Upon completion of the rally the participants gave away balloons to young children on the boulevard.
The police watched for a while, but did not intervene.
May 9th in the EU is celebrated as Europe Day. The basis of the celebration of Europe Day date was taken May 9, 1950, when the creation of the European Coal and Steel Union, transformed later in the current European Union, was announced.
AEM is an Azerbaijan division of the based in Brussels, European Movement International, which was founded in 1948 by Winston Churchill and other political leaders in Europe. One of the achievements of the movement was the creation in 1949 of the Council of Europe.
