Afgan Sadygov detained in Georgia at the request of Azerbaijan (updated)
Head of Azel.tv Afgan Sadygov Afgan Sadygov was detained by Georgian law enforcement agencies at the request of Azerbaijan. This was reported by his Tbilisi lawyer Dito Nozadze in a live broadcast on Facebook of A. Sadygov's wife, Sevinj Sadygova.
According to the lawyer, the extradition request was received from the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan in July.
It states that a criminal case was opened against Sadygov in Azerbaijan on May 10 on charges of extortion. By a court decision, he was put on the wanted list.
The lawyer Nozadze said that he has not yet met with A. Sadygov.
According to him, the detention was carried out at the request of the Georgian prosecutor's office. On August 4, A. Sadygov will appear in court to decide on extradition.
A. Sadygov's wife said the accusation was false.
She stressed that the journalist is being persecuted for criticizing the Azerbaijani authorities.

Tbilisi court arrested Afgan Sadygov for two months.
The court in Tbilisi chose a preventive measure in the form of arrest for two months against the head of "Azel.Tv" website Afgan Sadygov. This was reported to Turan by his wife Sevinj Sadygova.
According to her, it was announced in court that a criminal case under the Article "Extortion" was opened by the Azerbaijani Interior Ministry on 10 May.
"In June in Baku, I made an enquiry to "Asan Hidmet" about whether there is any criminal, court case against my husband, whether he is wanted.
The reply to the enquiry stated only that he had a criminal record," Sadygova said. She believes the criminal case against her husband has been falsified.
An appeal will be filed against the arrest decision, Sadygova said.
It should be reminded that Sadygov was detained on 3 August in Tbilisi at the request of Baku.--
