Alesker Mammadli's health cannot be stabilized in the pre-trial detention center
The health of Alesker Mammadli, the founder of “Toplum TV”, does not stabilize despite taking medications prescribed by a doctor; his blood pressure remains at 175/100, his brother Nasimi Mammadli told Turan. Being kept in a confined space in hot weather aggravated his health problems.
The injustice faced by A.Mammadli negatively affected his nervous system, his brother continued. At the same time, a tumor in the thyroid gland still makes breathing difficult and disrupts sleep patterns. Despite medication treatment, there are no positive results.
"Doctors recommended surgery on the thyroid gland. However, Alesker does not want to be operated on under the supervision of security forces. Because on June 22, when he was taken to a private clinic for a biopsy examination, the security forces actually prevented doctors from working," Nasimi Mammadli said.
In addition, during the arrest, Alesker's mobile phone was seized and he cannot submit tax reports via Asan Imzası (electronic signature). He must issue a power of attorney to his family members so that the report will be submitted in his place. However, he is not allowed to do this.
So, to issue a power of attorney in the pre-trial detention center, you can invite a notary, but for 6 months now Alesker has not been allowed to use this right, his brother noted. The Prison Service could not be reached for comment.
*On March 6-8, 9 employees of “Toplum TV” and its partner organization, the Institute of Democratic Initiatives, were detained. They were accused of smuggling foreign currency. Seven people were arrested and two were placed under police supervision.
The founder of “Toplum TV”, Alesker Mammadli, was also accused of currency smuggling. During a search of his apartment, they allegedly found 7,300 euros. On June 14, the Khatai court granted a request for a medical examination in a private clinic.
