Ali Aliyev Unhappy with Failure to Register as Presidential Candidate
The Citizens and Development Party (CDP) condemned the decision of the CEC on the refusal to register the party leader Ali Aliyev, as a presidential candidate. The statement said that the decision was arbitrary and politically motivated.
In support of Aliyev 42,364 signatures from 88 counties were presented to CEC. However, on 13 September, the CEC "under dubious arguments" said it identified 6,592 "similar" signatures.
In this case, the CEC flagrantly violated Article 59.3 of the Electoral Code and did not allow the authorized representatives of the candidate to the signature checking procedure.
The party regards it as "clear evidence of prejudice by the power to the political party that they cannot take under their influence."
The statement recalled that even in the parliamentary elections of 2010, the authorities intervened in the electoral process at the 15th First Yasamal district, and announced the winner another candidate who did not have any support.
The CEC decision is illegal and undermines the fairness and democracy of the upcoming presidential elections, the party said in the statement . - 06B -
