Ali Asadov Approved as Prime Minister (updated)
Baku /08.10.19 / Turan: The Azerbaijani parliament agreed to appoint Ali Asadov as head of the government. The presentation was made by the head of state.
At the beginning of the meeting, parliamentary speaker Ogtay Asadov said Novruz Mammadov wrote a letter of resignation from the post of Prime Minister. And he did not explain the reasons.
Ogtay Asadov said that Ali Asadov at all posts proved his competence, he knows the economy well and will cope honorably with the tasks of the Prime Minister.
Further, the parliament unanimously voted for the appointment of Ali Asadov as Prime Minister.

Ali Asadov to Become New Prime Minister of Azerbaijan
Baku / 08.10.19 / Turan: The agenda of today's meeting of the Milli Majlis includes, among others, the issue of confirming Ali Asadov to the post of Prime Minister. This was reported by sources in the country's parliament.
To this day, Asadov has been an assistant to the head of state on economic issues. It is noteworthy that there is still no decree on the release of Novruz Mammadov from the post of Prime Minister.
72-year-old Mammadov took over as Prime Minister just a year ago and will remain in history as the most inconspicuous head of government, not distinguished by any useful initiative.
Ali Asadov was born in Nakhchivan in 1956. He left school in Baku, and in 1978, graduated from the Moscow Institute of National Economy.
He began work at the State Planning Commission of Azerbaijan, at the Institute of Economics of the Academy of Sciences. In 1989-1995 he was an assistant professor and head of the department of the Institute of Political Science and Social Management.
In 1995, he was elected deputy of the Milli Majlis

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) today issued five rulings on applications from Azerbaijan. The case of "Afgan Mammadov v. Azerbaijan" concerned the complainant's exclusion from the Bar Association. Mammadov was expelled based on a complaint filed by a colleague, which he considered unjust. The ECHR ruled that Mammadov's rights had been violated and ordered Azerbaijan to pay him €5,000 in compensation for moral damage and €1,000 to cover legal costs.
