Ali Hasanov Explained Logic of Authorities with Regard to Early Elections
Baku / 05.02.18 / Turan: Assistant to the head of state for socio-political issues Ali Hasanov made explanations about the reasons for holding extraordinary presidential elections.
So, he told local media that in Article 101 of the Constitution a change was made to increase the term of office of the president from 5 to 7 years.
According to Hasanov, since the term of office of the head of state was extended to seven years, the President was given the right to appeal to voters for a vote of confidence by holding early elections.
As another reason for holding the elections half a year earlier, Hasanov called holding a lot of "important events" this year. So, the elections were to be held in October 2018.
"However, since May this year many important events of local and international level will be held in our country. Among them are a number of events in connection with the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Azerbaijan People's Republic, the International Humanitarian Forum and others. Most of these events will take place at the end of the year and coincide with the elections," Hasanov continued.
On the other hand, he said, so far in Azerbaijan, all elections were held in the fall. Taking into account the world practice, it is more expedient to hold elections at different seasons, including at the beginning of the year, Hasanov explained.
In addition, the election of the President of Azerbaijan for 7 years ensures the fulfillment of presidential powers from the beginning of the fiscal year. This creates an additional opportunity for more effective implementation of social and economic tasks, Hasanov said. -16D--
