Ambassador of Netherlands: I Would Very Much Like to Restore KLM Flights to Azerbaijan
Baku / 25.04.19 / Turan: The aviation agreement under discussion between Azerbaijan and the European Union will contribute to the development of tourism in the country. The Ambassador of the Netherlands to Azerbaijan Onno Kervers said this on Thursday at the press conference devoted to the Day of the King in the Netherlands.
It should be noted that the aviation agreement provides for an "open sky" policy, which will allow the airlines of the EU countries and Azerbaijan to freely perform mutual flights.
The Ambassador stressed that the agreement will facilitate the opening of new flights between the EU countries and Azerbaijan, from which everyone will benefit.
"Of course, as a citizen of the Netherlands, I really want KLM to restore its flights to Baku. In this case, there will be direct flights between the countries and the flight time will be not 13 hours as now, but 5 hours. But, despite the fact that KLM has the state share of the Netherlands, it is still a private company and therefore makes decisions on its own," he said.
Recall that in the 1990s, KLM operated flights Baku-Amsterdam. However, as a result of the monopolistic policy of AZAL, this company along with numerous other companies left the Azerbaijani market. -71D-
