Baku/28.03.18/Turan: Estonian citizen of Armenian origin, Karina Oganesyan, was detained at the Baku airport on March 23 and deported back, reported on March 28 the Armenian media with reference to Oganesyan's page in Instagram. According to her, she was kept at the airport for 12 hours, after which she was sent back.
Oganesyan is an adviser to the chairman of Tallinn city council and chairman of the youth wing of the Estonian Center Party, she went to Baku as part of the Estonian delegation to participate in the International Scientific and Practical Conference of Educators.
According to her, previously Oganesyan issued an electronic visa and was registered as a participant of the event from Estonia. Judging by the status of Oganesyan, neither the representatives of the Estonian Embassy in Baku nor the representative of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Estonia could solve the problem.
The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan answering the request of Turan agency said that they are not aware of the fact of the detention and expulsion of Estonian citizen.
For several years the Azerbaijani authorities have strictly restricted visits to the country by people of Armenian nationality. This cannot be done without obtaining the prior consent of the authorities. -02D-
