Anar Hasanov Rejects Allegations that He Asked for Political Asylum in Australia
The Third Secretary of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Australia Anar Hasanov in his address to the Turan news agency said that he applied several times to the head of state in connection with the facts of corruption in the embassy. Instead of sorting out what was happening, he was accused of libel. After that, some media said that he asked for political asylum in Australia.
In his speech, Anar Hasanov accused the Ambassador Jamshidov and the accountant of the Embassy Khasiyev of serious financial irregularities.
Hasanov called on the media to get acquainted with the promulgated documents and inform the head of the state, to which his complaints "do not reach".
In his address to the head of state, he wrote that the embassy accountant is engaged in speculation of alcohol and cigarettes, getting them at low prices from the diplomatic trade network and then reselling them several times more expensively. According to the diplomat, the amount of illegal income thus amounted to no less than 30 thousand dollars.
In addition, a "dead soul" was engaged as secretary, in the name of which $ 2,700 was written off on a monthly basis. For several years, the amount of misappropriated funds was 68 thousand dollars, said Hasanov.
A commercial object was opened in one of the service apartments of the embassy. It was an office of a travel company, which served tourists visiting Azerbaijan.
Hasanov also reports on other facts of violations in the activity of the embassy and asks the head of state to understand and assess these violations. His appeal was referred for consideration in the Foreign Ministry, whose head Elmar Mammadyarov on July 27 decided to withdraw Hasanov. At the same time, they did not take into account that the spouse of Hasanov soon had to give birth and the doctor forbade her to fly.
Hasanov claims that his complaint was also considered by the deputy head of the Presidential Administration Novruz Mamedov. However, as a result, the diplomat was not only fired, but also thrown out into the street from the service apartment together with his pregnant wife.
In conclusion, the diplomat facing a difficult situation "for exposing corruption" in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs asks the head of state to take action and protect his rights.
Earlier, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry issued a statement calling the allegations of Anar Hasanov slander, without specifying what exactly it is.
We did not manage to get the Foreign Ministry’s comment on Hasanov’s appeal. -02B-

"The whole question is about the timing, we need to understand how effectively and correctly to turn such topics into a subject of discussion right now," the Armenian Prime Minister added.

On August 31, Azerbaijan observes a "day of silence" before the Sunday’s early parliamentary elections for the unicameral Milli Majlis. All electoral campaigning is prohibited 24 hours before the voting. The early elections were initiated by the ruling Yeni Azerbaijan Party. This decision was motivated by the overlap of the scheduled elections in November with the global UN forum - the COP20 climate conference taking place in Baku.
