Ankara asks Prague to extradite Kurdish leader
Baku / 26.02.18 / Turan: Turkey formally appealed to the Czech authorities to extradite the leader of the Kurdish community of Syria, Salih Muslim. Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey, Bekir Bozdag, said that Salih Muslim, a former co-chairman of the Democratic Union (PYD) party, will face the Prague court on February 26.
Muslim was detained in Prague on February 24 at the request of Ankara. The Democratic Union accused Turkey of "arresting a person who is not her citizen ... without any legal justification."
Turkey demanded the extradition of Muslim after the Turkish court accused him of "violating the unity of the state and the country" and other offenses. The Democratic Union, which Turkey regards as a "terrorist group," is the main political Kurdish force in the north of Syria. Last year, Muslim resigned as co-chairman, but remained an influential politician. -02D-
