Another Azerbaijani Diplomat Refused to Return to Azerbaijan
In connection with the criminal case against the former Azerbaijani diplomat Arif Mammadov, the investigation continues examination of the Foreign Ministry employees who worked with him.
Turan was reported by an informed source. According to him, employees of foreign diplomatic missions are called to Baku and required to sign ready-made evidence against Mammadov. Otherwise, they are threatened with prosecution.
One of these diplomats is Samir Ismayilov, who worked at the Azerbaijan Representation in Strasbourg, when it was led by Mammadov.
After in May Arif Mammadov fell out of favor because of the criticism on Facebook of the officials guilty in the fire that killed 15 people, Ismayilov was persistently called to Baku.
Ismayilov at the time was working as the head of economic affairs at the Embassy of Azerbaijan in France. On his demand to send him an official challenge, they started to exert pressure and threats on him. After that, Ismayilov refused to return to Azerbaijan.
Then, based on the prosecution appeal, the Foreign Ministry withdrew Ismayilov early from a business trip.
The situation with the persecution and pressure on Ismayilov was confirmed by Arif Mammadov, who talked with Turan. However, the contact with Samir Ismayilov himself failed.
The press service of the Foreign Ministry does not comment on the situation around Ismayilov. The Prosecutor General's Office did not give a comment either, promising to "investigate" the matter.
Recall that this is the fourth Azerbaijani diplomat, who declined to return to the country. All of them have in common that they put the Like under the famous article by Arif Mammadov, who criticized the officials. –06D--

On August 31, Azerbaijan observes a "day of silence" before the Sunday’s early parliamentary elections for the unicameral Milli Majlis. All electoral campaigning is prohibited 24 hours before the voting. The early elections were initiated by the ruling Yeni Azerbaijan Party. This decision was motivated by the overlap of the scheduled elections in November with the global UN forum - the COP20 climate conference taking place in Baku.
