Baku/03.08.23/Turan: Azerbaijan has established the Lachin border checkpoint in order to prevent the illegal use of the Lachin road by Armenia for military purposes, the creation of a mine threat and the illegal export of natural resources from Azerbaijani territory, the message of Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Ceyhun Bayramov to the UN Secretary General, which was distributed as an official document in the United Nations Security Council.

The letter also notes that the unanimous decision of the International Court of Justice of the United Nations to reject Armenia's request confirms that Azerbaijan has the sovereign right to establish a border checkpoint on its territory.

Bayramov recalls that the checkpoint was established on April 23 and before the provocation committed by Armenia on June 15, 2023, when an Azerbaijani border guard was fired at and wounded from the territory of Armenia, more than 2,000 residents of Armenian origin were provided with safe and transparent passage through this border crossing.

In this regard, it is pointed out that Armenia's assessment as a "blockade" is unjustified, taking measures to investigate the causes of the provocation and ensure the security of the Lachyn CHECKPOINT.

Due to the lack of guarantees that such a provocation will not be committed by Armenia again, the Lachyn road is currently used only for medical transportation accompanied by the International Committee of the Red Cross.

At the same time, it is noted that despite the proposal to use the Aghdam-Khankendi road to meet the humanitarian needs of Armenian residents, Armenia continues to mislead the international community with absurd claims of their "blockade by Azerbaijan."

In conclusion, Bayramov emphasizes that Azerbaijan is committed to efforts to establish peace and security in the region, and notes the need for the international community to encourage Armenia to take a constructive approach in efforts to achieve sustainable peace. ---06B---
