Armenia ratifies Rome Statute, Yerevan steps up relations with Moscow
Baku/03.10.23/Turan: The Armenian National Assembly today ratified the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and pledged to implement its decisions. This is reported by Lenta.ru with reference to RT.
The opposition in the Armenian Parliament refused to participate in the issue discussion. As a consequence, the factions "Armenia" and "I have honour" left the session.
Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) warned Yerevan that ratification of the ICC would lead to the most negative consequences for relations with Moscow.
In March this year, the ICC in the Hague issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Maria Lvova-Belova, the Russian Presidential commissioner for children's rights. They are suspected of illegally deporting children from the occupied territories of Ukraine to Russia.
Russia condemned the ICC decision. Russia does not recognise the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and considers its decisions null and void, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated. -06В-
