Armenia refused to release five regions and build a gas pipeline from Azerbaijan - Alexander Lukashenko
Baku / 14.12.18 / Turan: President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko today at a meeting with representatives of the Russian media spoke about the proposals of Russia and Belarus in resolving the Karabakh conflict. Thus, he confirmed the existence of a Russian plan, implying a phased settlement.
According to a BelTA news agency, Lukashenko said that the issue was discussed in Yerevan at one of the CSTO summits when Serzh Sargsyan was president.
Belarus and Russia took a consolidated position, promising to introduce a military contingent, if necessary, to provide guarantees.
"Putin and I took a consolidated position: Serge, give these five regions. What is the reason not to return them, they are empty. He says: if I return, they will cut the road there, will occupy Karabakh and so on. Putin and I clearly promised that we will deploy our troops, and we will not allow this. He said: no, we will not agree with this, we do not want this," said Lukashenko.
According to the Belarusian leader, for him it was a surprise: "Why do not they want? Five regions are empty. This is the first step. And then both Azerbaijan and Armenia would be in the CSTO and EurAsEC. This was the condition under which Azerbaijan could join these organizations."
Then Lukashenko spoke about another proposal for a settlement: about laying a gas pipeline from Azerbaijan through Armenia.
Then the President of Azerbaijan offered Lukashenko to talk with the President of Armenia about laying a gas pipeline through Armenia. According to the Belarusian leader, Azerbaijan was also ready to invest in Armenia.
"And I went to Serge Azatovich and said it. They also refused," Lukashenka said. -02D-
