Arrest of Zaur Gurbanli is to intimidate young people
The arrest of civil movement activist and blogger Zaur Gurbanli is political and intended to intimidate civically active youth. This was stated at the press conference of the activists of NİDA, dedicated to the arrest of Gurbanli, accused of not obeying police.
A member of the NİDA Board, Anar Geyrayly, said that Gurbanli did not complain of physical pressure or conditions of detention.
According to another member NİDA, Turgut Gambar, the arrest is aimed at intimidating politically active youth structures. "However, after the arrest of Gurbanli, dozens of young people joined the organization, which indicates that the government objective failed," he said.
Blaming Gurbanli for not obeying the police was unfounded, and his detention was actually "kidnapping." The NİDA members also rejected claims on taking illegal documents and objects from Gurbanli
Lawyer Asabali Mustafayev confirmed to Turan, that today he visited Gurbanli in prison and he did not complain of physical pressure or conditions.
As reported, the Absheron Court sentenced Gurbanli to 15 days in jail on Saturday. However, the lawyer said that no other charges were made against Gurbanli. .-05C-
