Alen Simonyan
At the end of the year, the Aliyev-Pashinyan meeting may take place in St. Petersburg
Baku/07.12.22/Turan: Until the end of December, a meeting between the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan Parliament is possible, Speaker of the Armenian Alen Simonyan told reporters on Wednesday. When asked if Armenia agreed with Azerbaijan’s demand that French President Macron not be at the meeting, Simonyan replied that he had no information about the meeting place and added that it was not necessary that the meetings could only be in Brussels.
“We are ready for any meaningful discussion. You know that a meeting of vice-premiers was held yesterday, and an agreement was reached on the next meeting,” Simonyan added. Apparently, the meeting between Aliyev and Pashinyan will take place in Russia. An indirect confirmation of this was today's statement by the press secretary of the President of Russia Peskov.
"Russia, of course, will be ready to provide all necessary assistance to hold such a meeting on its territory," the TASS news agency quoted Peskov as saying. He hinted that the meeting could take place at the end of December in St. Petersburg.
“There are ideas to hold such a meeting before the New Year. As soon as all preparations are completed, we will make an appropriate announcement. If there is mutual understanding regarding the Aliyev-Pashinyan meeting, we will inform,” Peskov told reporters.
The Aliyev-Pashinyan meeting was scheduled for December 7 in Brussels through the mediation of the head of the European Council Charles Michel. However, a few days ago, Pashinyan said that he would go to the meeting only if the President of France also took part in it. However, Ilham Aliyev said that this is a violation of the agreement and he does not intend to discuss the Karabakh problem with Macron. ---02D---
