A.Taghizadeh: Elections in Iran will not bring anything good to Azerbaijani population

The June 14 vote in Iran can not be called a presidential election. All the six candidates are from the supranational system of power improvised by the religious leader Khamenei, in an interview with on-line Objective TV said the head of the Permanent Council of the World Congress of Azerbaijanis Azhdar Taghizadeh.

According to him, one of the candidates, former Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Velayati, despite the fact that he is an ethnic Azeri, in the beginning of the Islamic Revolution participated in the repression against the Turks, and their murders. The same goes for Mohammed Garazi, who was active in the ignition of the Iran-Iraq war, which claimed the lives of many Azerbaijanis.

The Tehran mayor Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf was also formerly at the Revolutionary Guards and was involved in the killings of people, and the suppression of student protests.

Another contender Hassan Rouhani already occupied the high post of Secretary of National Security Council during the presidency of Mohammad Khatami, and did not show any achievement.
Taghizadeh believes that the elections will not bring Iran to change.

According to him, the Iranian economy is by 70-80 per cent controlled by the Revolutionary Guards "Sepah" and the rest is in the hands of corrupt elites.

According to Taghizadeh, no matter who is elected at the election of the President of Iran, it will bring no good to Azeri population.

By his view, the way out for a multi-million Azeri population in Iran is acquiring independence of South Azerbaijan.

"South Azerbaijan must be independent. Our people must determine their own destiny. International law provides a right of Azerbaijanis. When it comes to elections, let it be granted the right to Azerbaijani Turks to vote for self-determination. Azeri Turks do not want nuclear weapons. They are not reactionaries. AzerbaijaniTurks want freedom. 35 million Azerbaijani Turks are under the yoke, and this must be stopped," said Taghizadeh. -06D -
