Azerbaijan assumes chairmanship in PA ECO
Baku/17.05.22/Turan: The chairmanship of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) has passed from Pakistan to Azerbaijan. This decision was made today in Baku at the third general conference of the assembly.
The speaker of the Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, said that during the presidency, Azerbaijan will make efforts to achieve the goals of the organization. At the same time, issues will also be among the priorities fight against the coronavirus pandemic and eliminate its consequences.
“Azerbaijan provided assistance to the countries most affected by the pandemic. Now we must be ready for the next steps,” Gafarova said.
It should be noted that the event is attended by delegations headed by the Secretary General of the PA ECO, the heads of the parliaments of Turkey, Pakistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
The ECO as a regional organization was established by Iran, Pakistan and Turkey in 1977.
After the collapse of the USSR, the organization also included Azerbaijan, the countries of Central Asia - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, as well as Afghanistan.—06B-

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) today issued five rulings on applications from Azerbaijan. The case of "Afgan Mammadov v. Azerbaijan" concerned the complainant's exclusion from the Bar Association. Mammadov was expelled based on a complaint filed by a colleague, which he considered unjust. The ECHR ruled that Mammadov's rights had been violated and ordered Azerbaijan to pay him €5,000 in compensation for moral damage and €1,000 to cover legal costs.
