Azerbaijan Buys Russian Medicine against Coronavirus?
Baku / 27.08.20 / Turan: Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, at a meeting with President Vladimir Putin, announced Azerbaijan's appeal in connection with the Sputnik V vaccine against COVID-19.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, 27 countries have expressed a desire to purchase the Russian coronavirus vaccine, she said. In these countries, Golikova mentioned Azerbaijan, Belarus, Brazil, Venezuela and Kazakhstan.
The Azerbaijani side did not indicate a desire to purchase the vaccine and did not comment on Golikova's statement in any way.
There is a lot of criticism in the world against Russia, which is accused of insufficient study of the side effects of Sputnik V.
The United States imposed sanctions against Russian vaccine developers and explains this by activities that are “contrary to the interests of US national security and foreign policy," namely the development of chemical and biological weapons.
The sanctions list of the US Department of Commerce includes 5 research institutes of the Russian Defense Ministry. The head of one of these research institutes, Sergei Borisevich, said that the safety of the drug and its protective efficacy had been proven during the research.
In addition to Russian institutions, 30 Chinese institutions were included in the US sanctions list.
There are 200 known vaccine development projects. In 15 cases, it undergoes local trials on volunteers in various countries.
Sumiya Swaminathan, chief researcher at the World Health Organization (WHO), said that it will take a maximum of a year and a half to create a vaccine against coronavirus, UN News reports. -0-
