Azerbaijan Discovers New Oilfield with Reserves of More Than 60 Million Tons
Baku / 19.03.20 / Turan: The presence of more than 60 million tons of oil at the Karabakh offshore field, which was still considered a promising structure, has been proven.
This is stated in the message of the state oil company SOCAR.
The deposit is located 120 km east of Baku in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian.
Exploratory drilling was carried out by SOCAR together with the Norwegian Equinor.
The sea depth in the area of the field is 180 meters, and the oil deposits are at a depth of 3.4 km.
The promising structure was opened back in 1959. The first exploratory drilling was carried out by the international company CIPCO in 1997-98. However, the results of exploration were regarded as unpromising.
In 2018, SOCAR and Equinor signed a new exploration agreement with equal equity participation - 50/50. -02D-
