Azerbaijan does not accept language of threats – Baku responded to Borrel
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry condemned the statement of the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrel, voiced by him at a press conference on November 13 in Brussels after a meeting of the Council on Foreign Relations.
It ought to obe noted that Borrel threatened Azerbaijan with "serious consequences" in case of "any violation of the territorial integrity of Armenia." At the same time, he also promised to strengthen Armenia's support from the EU.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry considered such an approach "not reflecting the realities in the region, as inadequate, and unacceptable."
"Against the background of the European Union's indifference to the almost 30-year-old military aggression of Armenia against Azerbaijan, to crimes against humanity and the policy of ethnic cleansing against Azerbaijanis, to the fact that more than one million Azerbaijanis found themselves in the situation of internally displaced persons and refugees, statements full of expressed support for Armenia and accusations against Azerbaijan are vivid example of the bias and double standards of this structure," the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said in a comment.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry recalled that the 44-day 2020 and 24-hour anti-terrorist measures in September this year were held in the sovereign territories of Azerbaijan.
"Azerbaijan has legitimately restored its sovereignty within the norms and principles of international law. While the EU countries are suffering from the tendencies of aggressive separatism, the attempts of the EU Foreign Ministry to incite separatism on the territory of our country are of serious concern," the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry further said in a comment.
The EU's efforts to support Armenia's armament and militarization, which hinders peace and stability in the region, are indicative of the encouragement of policies that lead to new conflicts, and the EU is also responsible for this. "Plans to use the European Peace Initiative, which provides, in particular, for strengthening Armenia's military potential, contribute to the growth of tension in the region. We remind you once again that it is unacceptable to speak with Azerbaijan in the language of threats, and any unfriendly actions will not give a positive result, but receive an adequate response," the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said.
