Azerbaijan forbids spreading “harmful” information
Baku / 17.03.20 / Turan: Today, the country's parliament introduced amendments to the law "On information, informing and protecting information." According to the changes, the owner of the information Internet resource is obliged to prevent the dissemination of information that is detrimental to the life and health of people, able to cause damage to property of citizens, a massive violation of public safety, the activity of vital objects in the field of finance, transport, communications, industry, energy and socio-infrastructure facilities, as well as leading to other dangerous consequences.
These additions were adopted after discussion and voting by members of parliament.
However, it is not clear from this text what exactly is meant by harmful information. In fact, any publication that caused a strong public outcry can be interpreted as harmful, and the site owner will be punished.
According to experts, the existing legislation of the country makes it possible to regulate the Internet sphere and an additional tightening will not stop the publication of the dubious sensations that the authorities are so afraid. In the end, such materials will move to social networks, which are almost impossible to regulate, experts say.-02D-
