Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry protests to Iran
Seyyed Jafar Aghaei Marian, Charge d'Affaires of the Iranian Embassy in Azerbaijan, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said in a report circulated on January 25.
“During the meeting, he was protested against the anti-Azerbaijani campaign openly carried out in Iranian media close to government circles, as well as against the Azerbaijani leadership,” the press release further noted.
Official Baku was particularly perplexed by the fact that after the 16th meeting of the joint Azerbaijani-Iranian State Commission on Economic, Trade and Humanitarian Cooperation held in Tehran this week, as well as “fruitful official meetings”, the Azerbaijani Ambassador was summoned to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, where he was charged with unfounded claims.
Besides, the Azerbaijani side pointed out the inadmissibility of the fact that instead of apologizing to Imam-juma Seyyid Hassan Ameli for insulting statements against Azerbaijan during the meeting in Ardabil, a campaign in support of him is conducted in Iran. In addition, a number of religious figures, including Imam-juma Qazvin, have joined the anti-Azerbaijani activities.
“Such steps damage bilateral relations and this should be prevented,” the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry emphasized in a statement.
The Charge d'Affaires expressed regret over some statements and actions and assured that he would bring the matter to the attention of Iran's competent authorities, the press release concluded.
It ought to be noted that on January 24, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Tehran Ali Alizadeh was invited to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, where he met with Assistant Minister and Director General of Eurasia Department Mozhtaba Demirchi.
According to MEHR news agency, Demirchi touched upon “negative actions of some circles and figures towards a number of Iranian students studying in Azerbaijan”. He called it harmful for the relations between the two nations, expressed protest of the Iranian side and called for punishment of the initiators of such actions”.
It is worth recalling that the other day about 10 Iranian students of the Medical University in Baku were expelled from the country for immoral behavior.

The coldness in relations between Baku and Moscow, which arose after the crash of a civilian airplane, seems to be growing. Baku increasingly and more often makes it clear to Moscow that it will not allow the death of the plane and its citizens to be hushed up.
